Poustinia leaves Italy!

Following the successful installation of a 40 foot long carved stone seat at the end of April, more history is being made at The Bishop’s Palace in Somerset – as a nine foot high circular stone seat, known as the ‘poustinia’, is about to be expertly craned into place amongst a glade of silver birch trees in the new Garden of Reflection.

The poustinia was designed by BCA Landscape and constructed from ultra-high performance Ductal Concrete and made in Northern Italy by Il Cantiere.

Il Cantiere is recognised as being the best interpreter of ultra-high performance concrete worldwide and specialise in manufacturing high specification sculptural pieces. They have made many pieces for prestigious locations, including the Louvre as well as many in Italy and France. In the UK, they supplied the ‘Staircase to Heaven’, a staircase in the London offices of architect Zaha Hadid, and have recently installed a staircase at Somerset House.

More news to follow next week as the installation begins! In the meantime here are so preview images of the Piece in Northern Italy prior to delivery to England this week.
